Joan Maloney

Graphic Design Consultant

As founder and president of Studio 318, Joan has been responsible for the concept, design and implementation of design, branding and marketing/advertising programs for large and small businesses alike. Started March 18, 1997 and based in San Diego, California, Joan’s client list includes the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Anheuser-Busch Entertainment Parks, (SeaWorlds Florida and San Diego and Busch Gardens Tampa), Jazzercise, The Irvine Companies, and Downtown Los Angeles BID among others.

Joan had the honor of being selected from over a hundred entries to design the graphics for the 2006 Academy Awards, including the 2006 commemorative posters. It was the first time the Academy decided to do two posters from the same concept, and the first time a woman designer was chosen.

In 2005 Joan, and her then 16-year-old daughter Hollis, launched a new company, +E (positive energy), which designs socially and environmentally conscious “awareness apparelTM” and was featured in the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Green Gift Bags. Their goal is to use their design abilities to reach out and communicate positive messages to help raise awareness of issues such as missing children, safe water supply and recycling to name a few. Along with the apparel, they plan to add greeting cards, children’s books and other educational materials.
