Does the increasing prevalence of allergies in our kids, the debate over organic versus non-organic, news about toxins and recalls and the buzz around living green get confusing sometimes? Well, local mama Sydney Carlaw, creator of the informative site babypurity.com, is launching the first Baby Purity Mother’s Conference this October to help demystify these topics. Bringing together concerned mothers and responsible companies the conference will help educate, encourage and empower mothers to make safe, healthy choices.

Here's another guest blog I wrote for Dr. Alan Greene's Perspectives, which clarifies the confusing vocablary found on the labels and bottles of your personal care products.

This week, in addition to the latest health studies, we’re highlighting some great new tools for healthy living and a quick on-line action to let our new president know we want better protection from chemicals in everyday products.

• Finding green stuff for kids is getting easier and easier. Check out the new ZRecs Guide to Safer Children's Products that tracks a variety of potentially harmful chemicals, ranging from BPA and phthalates to parabens, PEGs, triclosan, flame retardants, and a range of other chemicals that are used and abused in products that affect your children. Products are presented in individual listings that are sorted by brand and product type, and you can decide for yourself which chemicals to ban from your life and see filtered results for products reported to be free of them. Product areas span not only bottles, sippys, tableware, and pacifiers, but also apparel, bath products and bath toys, infant toys and teethers, kids' sunscreens, water bottles, relevant kitchen appliances, and much more.

On the advice of SmartMama, I have begun to Twitter. If you read my Twitters, cut me a little slack as I stumble into this new form of communication. I’m excited to start Twittering and to read a bazillion other Twitters (realistically, I probably only have time for a gajillion…or is a bazillion less than a gajillion?) Anyway, it seems to be either a great way for me to connect with the green and healthy community despite my being locked away in my house 95% of the time, or, conversely, an addictive vacuum of time.
