Artificial Turfs May Contain Lead

Our good friend Dr. Greene is talking about the CDC's recent public health advisory regarding artificial turf and lead exposure. My favorite excerpt from his blog outlining the CDC's advice is this not-so-simple step:
"Clothes worn on the field should be taken off and turned inside out as soon as possible after using the field to avoid tracking contaminated dust to other places. In vehicles, people can sit on a large towel or blanket if it is not feasible to remove their clothes. These clothes, towels, and blankets should be washed separately and shoes worn on the field should be kept outside of the home."
If parents need to take so many precautions (or post-cautions) after allowing their children to play on these surfaces, why are we still using them?
Read our latest coverage of this issue, What Lies Beneath: Toxic Turf Under Our Toes, and let us know what you think. We want to maintain on-going coverage of this issue and we'd love your stories and questions. Do your kids play on synthetic turf (solid surface, crumb rubber, or shredded tire rubber)? What precautions (if any) do you take?
