Better Yogurt & Package, Better Company

Like most consumers, I don’t often have the opportunity to really get to know companies I buy from. But, since Healthy Child started our Trusted Partnership Program, it’s become a part of my job to really get to know the people and practices behind the products. The more I get to know Stonyfield, the more I like them.

This summer we created a Healthy Baby Home Party sponsored by Yo Baby Yogurt (owned by Stonyfield). We heard scads of complaints from parents about the packaging used—PS #6 - for their multipack yogurts. We were equally concerned, and took these complaints up with Stonyfield. Turns out, they were already neck-deep in researching new packaging that would be better for the people and the planet. Fast forward 4 months, and they have just unveiled new plant-based packaging (which they admit is still is not perfect, but it’s a giant leap in the right direction).

I also love that Stonyfield, despite being a very large company, is actively trying to be small. Their products are not only organic, they truly support organic farming by buying from small, family farmers. They even share stories from the farmers (using a “farm cam”), have virtual farm tours, and post updates from the cows!

One more good thing: Stonyfield gives back. Stonyfield’s Profits for the Planet program has already gifted over $12 million to organizations committed to healthy food, healthy people, and a healthy planet. Check out the Stonyfield website to learn more about their mission and initiatives (and to find printable coupons).

Have you tried Stonyfield? What do you think?

Truly, your comments and concerns help us in our efforts to transform the marketplace. Imagine a world where all the products are safe and made by companies who protect our health and the planet. Let’s make that dream a reality.

I love Stonyfield organic yogurt. I buy the Yo Baby for my granddaughter but I find I like eating it just as much as she does.

Unfortunately, this is bad news for me, as I am allergic to corn!

I LOVE Stoneyfield Yogurt! I eat it constantly…simply grind up a few tablespoons of fresh flax seeds and add organic blueberries and apples for a wonderfully healthy and good-bacteria-filled treat! It’s also great to add Flax Oil to the mix. Thanks, Stoneyfield, for all your work to bring us healthy, yummy yogurt!

Janelle-  Another great article!  We love Stonyfield.  We freeze their yogurt tubes to become popsicles, and love that they are a big name company trying to stay real.

This might as well be a Stonyfield ad.  As soon as a website starts focusing so much on one company and/or one product, its own legitimacy is compromised.

My older daughter loved Yo Baby as a baby and up until recently (she’s almost 6 now) ate some type of yogurt almost every day, no doubt due to getting such a good start. I’m glad to see this change in packaging. True, not perfect, but a step in the right direction (even better would be a larger package that parents can transfer to smaller reusable dishes).

My one remaining complaint about ALL childrens’ yogurt (and most for adults too) is the sugar. I realize Stonyfield does not use high-fructose corn syrup, and that’s good, but there is still a lot of sugar in their products. Sugar is still sugar and it’s in so many things already—why not teach children to love the taste of yogurt without so much sweetener? I’d feel ever so much better about starting daughter number 2, now 6 months old, on Yo Baby!
