Building it Green – A Resource Guide

Our friends over at Citizens' Environmental Coalition have just completed a 100-page resource called " The World at Home:  A Household Guide to Building Green."

This book, meant to help readers choose greener products and strategies while building, renovating, or redecorating, is available FREE and downloadable from their website.

This resource includes information for homeowners, renters, students and contractors looking for a comprehensive introduction to green building materials and strategies.

The guide is written for the lay reader and describes problems with some conventional building materials; toxic problems in existing homes - like lead, asbestos and mold, includes tips on talking to architects and builders to prioritize the homeowners goals; and then goes on to discuss greener possibilities and products for all the building steps from the foundation upward.

It's also sprinkled with profiles about green building projects, as well as tips for hiring contractors, how to save water and energy, and other side notes about current events in the green building movement. "The World at Home" also includes links to all resources at the end of each section, further giving folks the tools for making affordable, safe, and environmentally preferable building decisions.
