Healthy Byte: Making an Eco-Friendly Soft Scrub

Healthy Child
Monday, July 06, 2009

You can use this scrub on countertops and the sink; it's also great for bathtubs and shower stalls.

We recommend to make only as much as you will use in one cleaning session, because it dries out quickly. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/8 cup of castile soap and 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin. For scent add 10 drops of essential oil, such as lavender or rose (optional).

This looks great, and very easy. Is this a “no rinse” formula? I’m wondering if there would be baking soda or soap residue left behind after just a wipe like in the video.

Thanks for the great tip!

This is a different recipe than I know of.  It sounds great though.  I recently hosted a workshop on making your own household cleaners.  The handout for that workshop is on my website, http://www.naturalindianamommas.ning.com.

Hi Laura, I’d love to see the handout from your workshop, but all I can find is a flyer for the workshop - no handout! Is there a different link?

Thanks,
Michelena

So sorry about that, Michelena! I think I have fixed it.  Thanks for letting me know.

What is the glycerin for, and why didn’t you add it to the bottle in the demo?
