Honoring Champions of Children’s Health

Special Announcement
Friday, October 14, 2011

by Janelle Sorensen, Chief Communications Officer, Healthy Child Healthy World

Jenna Elfman hosted the 12th Healthy Child Healthy World Awards on October 6th at The SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, honoring leaders making an impact in children’s environmental health: CNN, LASVP, Dr. Alan Greene and Laila Ali.

Nikka Costa and KCRW DJs Liza Richardson and Garth Trinidad performed at the event, which was presented by O.N.E. Coconut Water. Presenters and guests included Sasha Alexander, Diane Farr, Catherine McCord, Holly Robinson Peete, Elisabeth Rohm and Jennifer Taylor, among others.

“This is a huge new leap for our charity, we’re moving into the second decade,” said Nancy Chuda, who founded the organization with her husband, Jim, after their daughter, Colette, died of a rare form of non-hereditary cancer linked to environmental factors in 1991. “If we can make a difference in the life of another child and their families, that’s good.”

“If you look at all of the pressing children’s health problems today, the things that are rapidly increasing—whether it’s ADHD or asthma or diabetes or autism—it’s not that in the last couple decades that our genes have changed, it’s our environment,” said Prevention Award honoree Dr. Alan Greene. “It’s our lifestyles: How we eat, how we move and the chemicals we are exposed to. And Healthy Child Healthy World is at the forefront of changing that.”

“This is an organization that I support, and the work that they do is so important. I feel honored that they look at me as someone who is helping to fight the fight to take care of our children,” said Luminary Award honoree Laila Ali. I’m a mother of two so obviously I know how important it is that we’re aware of what is good and what isn’t for our children.”

“This organization completely transformed my life,” said Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff, Executive Director and CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World. “Now, being able to lead it with an amazing team is such an honor. We are building a movement that can change the way that we look at health, and we’re building it with our children. That’s just an incredibly powerful and exciting thing.”

Additional sponsors of the 2011 Healthy Child Healthy Worlds Awards gala included Vital Choice, Fresh Healthy Vending, Horizon Organic, Earth Friendly Products, SmartyPants Vitamins, Angeleno Magazine, TLC, United Talent Agency, Kanon Organic Vodka, Frey Organics, and Y+B Wines.

Thanks to all of our amazing supporters. You are helping to change the world!

It was a fantastic event.  I learned about new products, made some new friends, and reconnected with some very dear old friends.
