Let’s Tweet about How to Eat Healthy: Fast, Frugal, Fun and Eco-Friendly!
Healthy Child
Wednesday, March 31, 2010
No doubt you’ve heard the saying “You are what you eat.” We’ve grown up learning that a healthy diet includes servings from the four food groups and the food pyramid but it’s also about what’s NOT on our plates, namely, artificial additives, pesticides, synthetic hormones, antibiotics and genetically modified food. Unfortunately, when even sugary breakfast cereals tout they’re “Natural” and contain “Whole-Grain,” it’s hard to decipher which foods really are healthy.
Join our on-line Health eFamily Thursday, April 1st at 6PST/9EST as we discuss choosing healthier food. Our featured expert panelists this week are Anna Getty and Kristin O’Connor.
Anna Getty is the author of the recently released “Easy, Green Organic Cookbook” and “I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas.” She is also a certified Kundalini Yoga and Prenatal Yoga teacher (with a series of best-selling yoga DVDs), a specialist in organic cooking and cuisine, the founder of Pregnancy Awareness Month, and a consultant for her positive lifestyle brand, PureStyle Living. Anna sits on the boards of Healthy Child Healthy World and the Environmental Media Awards, and works closely with The Organic Center.
Kristin O'Connor is founder of Nourish This and she knows first hand the powerful affect of healthy cooking. In her early twenties Kristin was diagnosed with multiple health issues, and at the same time, learned she was allergic to gluten, soy, and dairy. She sought out alternative means to heal and discovered there is a possibility to do so. Kristin found ways to create recipes, determined not to "miss out" on foods she loved, foods that comforted and satisfied. Although Kristin trusts that organic whole food ingredients are healthy, she wanted to understand why, realizing that the more she knew about how healthy food benefited her, the more she wanted to include them in her diet. Within one year of changing her diet, detoxing and practicing ways to reduce stress… Kristin began to see drastic improvements to her health. Kristin proved that it tastes good to take care of yourself.
Let’s tweet about how to #EatHealthy!
We’ll learn about…
• Cracking product labels. What do terms like “natural,” “organic,” and “free-range” really mean? Are they regulated at all?
• What preservatives are the most important to avoid.
• Which foods are most important to buy organic.
Ask our experts your most pressing questions and walk away with a new understanding of what to look for when you hit the supermarket.
