Yes, indeed, it’s been a full year since Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home hit the book shelves. Time certainly flies! Today marks the book’s release into paperback, so I thought I’d point out a few changes and encourage you to pick up a copy for your friends and family.
The book’s new format in paperback couldn’t suit it better. At its heart, my book is a reference guide, one that you turn to again and again for advice, explanations, and alternatives. The slim and light frame is perfect for parents on the go - you can toss it into a purse or diaper bag or briefcase, for quick access to answers at the grocery, toy or home-improvement store.
Of particular utility to parents is the 27-page Healthy Resources/Healthy Shopping section and 16-page index (which also offers updates of various facts and figures). A lot of parents have told us that they use the book almost like a manual, and that knowing they can rely on it for step-by-step instructions and thoroughly researched facts is a huge relief. It prevents them from feeling helpless.
And during these tough financial times, its good to remember that these are practical, doable solutions that won’t force you to rearrange your life or bankrupt the family budget. There’s an alternative for every need and in every price range.
Speaking of solutions the book offers, here’s a quick recap of the wealth of information found inside:
- Tips to take to the grocery store, including the most and least pesticide-laden fruits and vegetables and the best healthy, kid-approved snacks.
- Advice on preparing a nontoxic home for a new baby.
- Inexpensive do-it-yourself directions for making household cleansers, personal-care products and children’s playthings.
- Ideas for keeping your pets healthy and safe.
- News you can use: that baking soda, vinegar and boiling water will keep a drain clog-free (kids love the resulting volcano effect, too); antibacterial soaps are unnecessary despite what you may have heard from advertisers; something as unglamorous as a doormat may reduce the amount of lead in most homes by 60%; and much more.
So pick up a copy today (only $11 on Amazon!) for that mom to be, parent in need, or curious reader, like you!
