Healthy Child Healthy World has entered the American Express Members Project, a national competition for actionable ideas that are innovative, achievable, and can make a broad positive impact.
Healthy Child proposed a healthy school initiative called Make America's Schools Healthy, targeting prevention of chronic childhood illness in the public school system. The program promotes simple, cost-effective practices that will vastly improve wellness standards. Some of examples of our recommendations include the use of non-toxic pest management , employing non-toxic products, and promoting proper nutrition through school garden programs, healthy lunch collaborations, and by minimizing junk food on campus.
Unhealthy schools contribute to such illnesses as asthma, ADHD, obesity, learning and developmental disabilities, and all affect a child's ability to maximize the educational experience. The program will make schools less toxic, more green and sustainable, and seek to ameliorate the conditions for proper learning and development. All the while, the program would stress prevention as a key to avoiding illness, exactly as we do here at Healthy Child Healthy World.
If you have an American Express card please log onto the Members Project site, and nominate our project, Make America's Schools Healthy. The winning submissions will share $2.5 million in funding to actualize the projects. Please log-on and vote for us!
