Healthy Child

The importance of choosing a natural fiber mattress, like cotton or wool, over a conventional mattress treated with flame-retardants, is incredibly important for your health and your children’s health. Most crib mattresses are composed of many petroleum-based chemicals like vinyl (polyvinyl chloride or PVC), phthalates, polyurethane foam, harsh chemical fire retardants, and other additives.

How do I figure out which ‘organic’ mattress is actually chemical free, flame retardant free, etc? I can’t find any information on the web to suggest alternatives to standard mattresses with the exception of Naturepedic. But, even this website doesn’t really provide any real proof of non-toxic substances.

There is a cover you can order from New Zealand that stops SIDS or cot death and the web site is: www.cotlife2000.co.nz Read all about the research and the Dr. that developed this mattress cover and the statistics from the use of this cover. My grand children have them on their beds and it is a great gift. Wither it is a childrens mattress or adults, these chemicals are carcinogenic and should never be put on any sleeping materials.
