If you have a slow or smelly drain, pour ½ cup of baking soda followed by a cup or so of white vinegar. The ensuing fizzing will delight kids of all ages. When the fizzing stops, pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain.

We do this once a month on each drain to prevent buildup, and my son loves to add food coloring and watch the magic.

Also, caustic cleaners, such as lye and acids – found in drain cleaners are the most dangerous cleaning products because they burn skin, eyes and internal tissue easily.
