Tip 61: Clean Oven without Chemicals

To clean your oven (assuming it isn’t a self cleaning oven), avoid the toxic fumes of conventional oven cleaners. All you need is baking soda.
Sprinkle a little bit of water over the bottom of the oven, follow with baking soda (make sure it covers the bottom) and then wet it with a spray bottle of water.
If you need to clean the sides, make a paste of water and baking soda. Apply the paste and let it sit a couple of hours or overnight. You should be able to use a rag to remove the baking soda. Wipe it again to remove any residue from the baking soda, and your oven should be clean.
Lye and acids – found in drain cleaners, oven cleaners and acid-based toilet bowl cleaners – are the most dangerous cleaning products because they burn skin, eyes and internal tissue easily.

I’m trying this tip out tonight. I hate using those spray oven cleaners because they smell and get in the food the first time or two you use the oven after cleaning. Hope this works! Plus, it’s way cheaper!
