What Parents Think of O.N.E. Coconut Water

As summer is officially upon us (how did that happen?), it’s important to take a moment and refresh. In March, we aligned with a new Trusted Partner: O.N.E. Natural Experience Coconut Water.

Hailed as ‘Nature’s Energy Drink,’ coconut water is a great hydration alternative to water or sports drinks. It has five essential electrolytes, more potassium than a banana, and it has no added sugars, no fat, no cholesterol and no preservatives.

Especially with lots of outdoor activities coming up this summer, you may want to consider tossing some O.N.E. Coconut Water in your bag. But don't take our word for it. We had O.N.E. send samples to our Parent Ambassadors and here's what they had to say—no editing, no fluff, just a straight copy and paste.

Colleen Padilla, Classy Mommy

Really, what child ever drinks Pedialyte during those bouts of stomach flu? It is kind of a joke as I buy it every year, beg and plead my kids to drink it when they are sick and I end up throwing it all out as no one touches more then a mere sip of it.

Truth be told the coconut water is a bit of an acquired taste. It did not go over like chocolate with my kids, but I loved the mango flavor and my 4 year old daughter’s also liked that one best of all. It is something I am certain she would drink someday in the future compared to her not drinking Pedialyte – ever.

The other fun thing we did was make homemade mini popsicles out of the pineapple-flavored coconut water and both kids devoured them – and I figure it is far healthier than a junky flavor ice popsicle but an exciting treat all the same. For Colleen’s full review, visit Classy Mommy.

My kids tried all of the flavors of the ONE Coconut Water and only liked a couple of them. They weren’t fond of the plain coconut water (with no added flavor) at all. I think in the case of a sick child that needs to stay hydrated, ONE Coconut Water is a great alternative to conventional drinks. I might buy it in that instance, but otherwise my kids don’t really drink much other than water and milk so I probably wouldn’t buy it unless one of them was ill.

Jason Avant, DadCentric

O.N.E. Coconut Water is my go-to drink after a workout. I started drinking it a while back, and I think that it works better than any of the artificial sports drinks out there. It’s definitely for adventurous palates – my kids like the flavored varieties, but took a pass on the plain.

Ciaran Blumenfeld, Momfluential

The coconut water is a hit with my kids – especially the flavored versions. I’m not so into the flavors but definitely like to have the unflavored one around and chilled in the summer. It’s just so much more refreshing and restorative than plain water when you really need it!

Christine Koh, Boston Mamas

Last spring, my husband brought home and lovingly cracked open a baby coconut for us to enjoy; though appreciative of his effort, I proclaimed the taste a bit odd and I wasn’t wild about the floaties (bits of coconut meat). About a month later, I read an InStyle interview with Rebecca Romijn, in which she touted the health properties and general awesomeness of coconut water. Given that I had just started running, I thought I should give coconut water another go for the hydration benefits. Whether it was Romijn, the lack of floaties in the packaged coconut water, or simply that I needed to acquire the taste over time, I declared coconut water awesome and now drink it regularly.

O.N.E.‘s coconut water is similar in taste to other brands I have tried —yummy, refreshing, and definitively good-for-you-feeling following a run. What was new to me, however, was trying their flavored coconut waters (pineapple, pink guava, passion fruit, mango). All conjure the image of lying beachside with an umbrella-adorned drink in hand, and I’d say my favorite flavor is pineapple. However, as someone who doesn’t drink juice or soda, the flavored waters are a bit too sweet for my palette. So I started cutting them with electrolyte water following my runs, and landed on the perfect blend of replenishing, tasty, but not too sweet.

Coconut water is a bit of an acquired taste and if you haven’t yet given it a go, I would definitely recommend trying it. And though I consume enough coconut water to warrant buying the bigger containers, the smaller boxes are super convenient for on the go hydration.

Maria Mora, Your Mama Reviews & Mommy Melee

I loved the packaging of the ONE Coconut water! It’s convenient and perfect to throw into our beach bag or my diaper bag. The taste was a little strange for me. I didn’t enjoy the aftertaste and the fruit flavors were a bit too sweet for my liking. My four-year-old tried two flavors (plain and mango) and told me they were both “yucky.” I don’t think this is a fault with the drink as much as the fact that raw coconut water is really an acquired taste.

Coconut water is a great new healthy drink for kids, teens, college students and adults. If you have not tried it, do so. There are a ton of great benefits. I think the differentiating factor amongst the 3 top brands is that VitaCoco is the pure play as ONE and Zico are turning to concentrate. All three are still healthy and are a great natural alternative to juices.

i have tried all of the coconut waters out there with my kids and the only one that they will drink and stick to is Vita Coco. i think that the flavors and simplicity of it makes it a more enjoyable drink for them… i personally prefer the vita coco brand also!

O.N.E. coconut water is really not that good… Vita coco is by far the best brand out there, and anyone who is not drinking that should switch. It is the most pure (uses only natural ingredients) AND has the best flavors.
