What Shade Of Green Are You?

When Christopher was writing the Healthy Child Healthy World book, he referred to his wife as being a lighter shade of green than him.  I thought it was a clever way to talk about where people are on the spectrum without judging who’s doing more or less.  Every shade of green is beautiful because every act of green-ness is an act of goodness.

The moms over at 5 Minutes for Going Green are tackling their individual shades.  I love how Jennifer says it:

“Going green is not a contest where we have one winner and everyone else is a loser.  It is also not about being better than the next mom as we try to determine who is greener than the other.  Going green is personal.  Fortunately, there are several ways to be green and as far as shades go, pick anyone you would like.”

In the green mom blog community, they’re even challenging one another to divulge their own personal successes and struggles with green-ness.  You can read about Jen’s Top Ten Challenges over at New Green Mama, and Green and Natural Mommy posted about feeling comfortable in your green skin at Little Green Secrets.

I, myself, confess:  I’m extremely careful about what personal care products I buy for my daughters (who are 5 and “7 and a half and a quarter”), but we occasionally indulge in painting our toenails.  I’d gauge myself as being moss green, with small patches of brown that I’m refining over time.

It seems more people are embracing the idea that we at Healthy Child have tried to promote for years now:  no one can do everything, but everyone can do something.  There is no perfect shade of green, but it’s vital that we all try to find one that works for our lifestyles and families.  What shade are you?
