What Will Food Be Like In The Future?

Food For Thought

Personally, despite how geeky I am about almost all things science, food, and health related, I hear the words “Farm Bill” and anything following it sounds like the adults on old Peanuts cartoons. “Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah.” I know it’s important, but my lack of interest has proven to be beyond my control.

Until now.

The disastrous state of our food system is too undeniable and public health is taking a nose dive. I can’t fathom what the future of food and health will be like for my kids if we don’t stand up and demand change.

“Parents Stand Up For Food” is a new campaign from our friends at Parent Earth, intended to educate the public about the Farm Bill. (Please - don’t drift off yet!)

Here’s their funny PSA (yes, they proved to make learning about the Farm Bill entertaining) to help you get up to speed on the importance of this policy.

“Every five years or so, the U.S. adopts a new Farm Bill,” writes the Community Food Security Coalition. “This massive piece of legislation sets the framework for what we eat, whether our food is nourishing and affordable, what assistance our society provides to feeding hungry people, what crops farmers grow under what conditions, and how rural land is used.”

Okay, you have my attention. That’s a BIG deal.

  • Sign our petition asking Campbell’s to stop endangering our kids’ health.
  • Sign our other petition telling the FDA to require labels on genetically modified foods.

How are you standing up for healthy food?
