It’s only January 4, but I’m already convinced 2012 is going to be an amazing year for Healthy Child Healthy World based on the submission of three spectacular “Mom on a Mission” nominees, who are also members of our Healthy Child Network.
We love all three of the nominated moms: Alicia Voorhies of The Soft Landing, Deanna Duke of Crunchy Chicken, and Brenna Burke of Almost All the Truth. They are all smart, passionate and committed to making the world a better place. They inspire us with their words and work. We’ve added all three candidates into the pool for our 2012 Mom on a Mission.
I have to confess I have a soft spot for Alicia. I got to know her after writing an article about her role in launching the movement to get BPA out of baby bottles. Alicia’s level of knowledge about how toxic chemicals harm health is informed by her self-described “research geek” nature and her training as a nurse. I am inspired by her work to create the first green baby and birthing resource in Kansas City, where, with Melissa Moog from Itsabelly, she will work with new parents to create a non-toxic environment for their families. Alicia’s so cool that last month the Moms Clean Air Force cited her role in the effort to ban BPA from baby bottles in their “5 Mom Movements We Love” blog. Congratulations, Alicia!
