Melinda Gray

Melinda Gray completed her Master of Architecture at UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning in 1982. A licensed architect in the state of California, she has more than 15 years experience with small and large scale projects in the Los Angeles area. Her experience includes the design of sound studios, stages, and offices, retail stores, a medical diagnostic clinic, UCLA hospital renovations, a preschool renovation, and numerous new residences, remodels, and additions. She has won awards from the Los Angeles Business Council. In addition, she was selected in 1998 by Los Angeles Business Journal as one of LA's 25 most well-regarded architects. Her work has been published in local, national, and international magazines and journals, as well as International Yearbook of Architecture, Guide to the Architecture of Southern California, and West Coast Wave.


Asymmetrical Butterfly


“Asymmetrical Butterfly” is a sustainable house in Pacific Palisades, California using green building techniques and materials such as a passive solar envelope, natural daylighting, skylights at the central core, energy efficient windows and doors, a high velocity HVAC system, bamboo cabinetry and doors, and a rainwater catchment system with a cistern to use for irrigation.

This is the first custom home in southern California to  achieve “Platinum” designation from the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, (LEED). The solar panels incorporated in the cutting edge design of the house produce the homes own energy. Built with numerous recycled materials including blue jean insulation and fly ash concrete, it also showcases bamboo floors, Forest Stewardship Council certified lumber siding, energy efficient windows, automated skylights, low VOC paints and finishes, radiant heat floors,  rain water catchment, drought tolerant landscaping and is outfitted with GE’s Energy Star qualified appliances and Kohler low flow fixtures.
