Servings: 3-6

Ingredients

  • 9 months +
  • 1 Banana, baked (375 degrees, for about 10 minutes)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cherries, crushed
  • * This will make enough for 5-6 breakfasts, store in glass containers in fridge or freezer until ready to use again.
  • 18 months +
  • 2 teaspoons molasses
  • 1/4 cup soft or boiled pears, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons dried, unsweetened blueberries
  • * This will make enough for 2-3 breakfasts.
  • 21 months + “Carrot Cake”
  • 2 tablespoons shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons pineapple, diced
  • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • 1 tablespoon walnuts
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • * This will make enough for about 5-6 breakfasts.
  • 23 months +
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons prunes, diced
  • 2 teaspoons Local honey
  • * This will make enough for about 4 breakfasts.

Breakfast Options

I am not going to do the math, but just trust me when I say using the options in this recipe, and varying them with different grains and yogurt, will give you endless possibilities for breakfast!

Make It:

Start by choosing a whole grain (buckwheat, quinoa, oatmeal... Even brown rice)
or organic yogurt. Next, chose from the options above and wa-la, breakfast
made!

Clean it:

When preparing fresh fruit or veggies, it is a great opportunity to lead by examplefor your kids. Teach them about composting and do an experiment to track the amount of garbage bags you save at the end of the week by recycling and composting!

Green it:

Breakfast is a great opportunity to buy in bulk. This significantly reduces the cost
of whole grains and raw nuts as well as eliminates a great deal of unnecessary
packaging.

Make it Fun:

Take the fruit, dried fruit, even honey and molasses and make smiley faces on top
of the whole grain (especially if you have a finicky child!). It makes it more
inviting... I know I can’t help but feel positive about breakfast if I see pineapple
eyes and walnut lips smiling back at me! ;)
