Gwyneth’s Baby Food Recipes
Once Apple and Moses were old enough to eat solids, I started making them snacks like these below, often times using a bit of maple syrup (it breaks down so slowly there’s no “insulin bombing” the way there is with sugar).

Make It:
Moses’s Brown Rice Baby Food
Brown rice is naturally sweet and babies love it. As Moses got bigger, I made the puree coarser. It can last in the fridge for a couple of days.
Puree 1 cup cooked brown riche with 1 ½ cups unsweetened rice milk (adjust amounts for consistency). Steam any of your child’s favorite veggies – sweet potatoes, peas, broccoli – and puree that, too. Mix the purees in whatever amounts your kid likes.
Apple’s Organic Roast Veggie Sticks
My kids eat these with their fingers. When they cool, the sticks are all caramelized and delicious.
Peel carrots, sweet potatoes, and parsnips and cut into thick French fry-size pieces. Toss with a drizzling of olive oil and a bit of salt and pepper, and roast for 30 minutes at 400 degrees F. After 20 minutes, remove from the oven, stir in some maple syrup, then return to the oven until lightly browned.
Clean It:
Some vegetables that grow underground, like carrots, require a more thorough washing to remove pesticide residue and microorganisms. Use a gentle scrub brush to get firm-skinned foods cleaned!
Green It:
Store leftovers in safe, BPA-free, storage containers. Use glass or ceramic containers to microwave leftovers.
Make it Fun:
