Lazy Girl’s Green Shake

My daughter Liv and I split this shake every morning! It's my breakfast but she has oatmeal, eggs, & Pinkalicious Muffin from Today I Ate A Rainbow!

I've been making the Dr. Oz Green Drink for a while -- it doesn't taste very good and it's a pain to make fresh every day at 5 a.m. before I leave for work. Alysia's drink is delicious and super easy to make (even when you're half asleep). The term "lazy girl's green shake" says it all. If you are strapped for time and want a healthy alternative for breakfast, this is it. Beats a bowl of cereal any day in my book!

I'll agree with Anne. Who needs powders when you can have the real thing? I have a green smoothie every a.m. with 3 c. of organic baby spinach, a small organic banana (or 1/2 a larger one), some other fruit (whatever's on hand, cantaloupe, berries, etc. - all organic as well), a base of organic non-fat kefir (or you could use any yogurt/cow's milk/nut or rice milk). A sprinkle of cinnamon, a dash of vanilla - that's it. Fruit & veg & protein in one delicious shake - and you don't even taste the spinach - trust me. Stevia/agave/honey/etc. are all sugars (some more processed than others) - why not get naturally-occurring sugars from the banana? The one powder I sometimes do use is Super Seed - basically a fiber supplement that has a nice cinnamon-y taste. I put that in in addition to all the above ingredients.

I'm all about whole and healthy living-but at first glance, this shake looks like a bunch of prepackaged processed ingredients and all the really good things are in the "optional" list. Some people might also benefit from a note reminding us that organic, non-gmo ingredients are key to health. If you make a shake full of conventional apples and ice made from tap water-you're probably eating more carcinogens than you would like to know...just a thought!
