Make It:
1. Using your standing blender or immersion blender, add all of the ingredients above and blend until smooth!
One trick to getting your blender to blend easier is to add the liquid first, then the protein powder and everything else on top of that.
2. If your mixture is too thick, add more milk.
*This is just a basic smoothie recipe, and a way to sneak in a great veggie like spinach, but you can mix this up by using other fruits (banana, peach, mango, blackberries, raspberries, etc.). You can also add yogurt instead of protein powder, or cocoa powder instead of cinnamon for a chocolaty taste! Mix it up and have fun!
Clean it:
Save money and help out the environment, buy your fruit in-season and local if possible. If you stock up while the fruit is in-season, you can freeze them for smoothies/baking later on.
Green it:
Don’t forget the Dirty Dozen when making smoothies. It is important to prioritize the organics you chose to buy if it is not possible to get everything organic so that you ensure the greatest reduction in pesticide exposure. For example, in this recipe its more important to opt for the organic strawberries than blueberries if you are on a budget.
Make it Fun:
Involve your kids in adding new and creative things to your smoothie, add pure cocoa powder for your chocolate lover or a teaspoon of peanut butter. Vary the fruits you add and encourage them to try to sneak in other veggies and see if they can taste them. Make it a fun game and soon enough your kids will be asking to sea vegetable smoothies... Right, but you get the idea!
